Performance of A Burst-Frame-Based CSMA/CA Protocol for High Data Rate Ad Hoc Networks: Unsaturated Throughput Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
In high data rate wireless ad hoc networks, the throughput of MAC protocols is significantly limited by the overhead such as control messages. To improve the throughput in high data rate networks, we recently proposed [1] a general framework for MAC protocols based on the well-known CSMA/CA. The key idea of this framework is to aggregate multiple upper-layer packets into a larger burst frame at the MAC layer, thus the overhead can be substantially reduced. In this paper, we develop an analytical model to evaluate the unsaturated throughput performance of a burst-frame-based CSMA/CA protocol, which is within the framework. The uniqueness of our analytical model is that we consider both the unsaturated traffic condition and a queueing system with bulk service, in which the burst service time depends on the number of packets in the burst and depends on the channel access condition. Performance Analysis Of Frame-Burst-based Medium Access Control Protocols Under Imperfect Wireless Channels
How to provide high throughput performance is a major challenge in the design of MAC protocol for next generation wireless local area networks (WLANs) and wireless personal area networks (WPANs). To achieve this goal, frame-burst-based CSMA/CA protocols have been proposed recently in both academia and industry. The main idea of the frame-burst-based protocol is to aggregate multiple upperlayer ...

In this paper, we develop an analytical model to evaluate the delay performance of the burst-frame-based CSMA/CA protocol under unsaturated conditions, which has not been fully addressed in the literature. Our delay analysis is unique in that we consider the end-to-end packet delay, which is the duration from the epoch that a packet enters the queue at the MAC layer of the transmitter side to t...
متن کاملThroughput Improvement in Wireless Multi-Hop Ad-Hoc Networks Using Load Control
IEEE 802.11 MAC is the most commonly used protocol in multi-hop ad-hoc networks which need no infrastructure. In multi-hop ad-hoc networks based on IEEE 802.11, since nodes try transmitting their packets at every possible slot, there is a high packet loss probability. This degrades network performance attributes such as throughput and fairness. In this paper, we focus on achieving the maximum t...

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
